I am not a medical doctor, but believe Orthostatic Hypertension (OH) would be the medical term for this phenomenon. When we experience a sudden change in movement (lying down to standing) our blood needs a little help to reach the head and our retina or brain might not receive the blood it needs to function properly.

This can send abnormal signals making the brain think light is there when it’s not leading to the effect of “seeing stars”.
