My favourite thing about being a scientist is that I get to ask questions about how things work and then I get to find out the answers by doing research. Sometimes it’s hard to get your head round a problem and then it’s really good to be able to talk to other scientists who can help you out.

The hardest part is when you’ve been working on something for a long time and you find out it doesn’t work. The biggest kick for me though is when those answers lead to something that can be used by lots of people to make their lives more comfortable, safer etc.

It can be hard! But when you work on something hard for a long time and you finally manage to get it finished it’s really rewarding.

One of the things I like about being a scientist is that the working environment (at least in a university) is really relaxed. I don’t have to wear a suit, and as long as I get the work done, it doesn’t matter too much whether I start at 9am or 10am in the morning.
