There are many many galaxies in the Universe, but there aren’t any in our solar system. In fact, our solar system is inside a galaxy. Galaxies are made up of hundreds of millions of stars, so they’re much bigger than our solar system. They also have hundreds of millions of planets in them too. If you’ve ever looked up on a clear night and seen a milky band of light across the sky (it looks like this), then you’ve seen our galaxy. That band is the centre of the galaxy – we’re out in the spiral arms.
