I’m going to stick my neck out and say no, it will not be possible to build a time machine. This is not based on a deep understanding of the physics involved, but on my belief that to be able to move in time would mean that all of our previous and future actions are constantly being played out in a sort of eternal movie and also means that any decision I make is not the basis of free will, but has already been predetermined to fit the movie playing in the future.
As a response to Carsten I would say that if a time machine had will be invented (see Dr. Dan Streetmentioner’s Time Traveler’s Handbook of 1001 Tense Formations for the correct grammar), then surely the time-traveller would have already have will make the invention known to us all. 😉
(I secretly agree with Carsten that it would be a great invention)
