• Question: why do you want to make accelerators for particles

      Many particles are more useful if they travel at higher energies. For example, to create matter according to E=m*c^2 you need to bring a lot of energy to one point in space and collide to beams (or shoot one onto a target) to create heavy particles.

      So in a nutshell for this type of application the higher the energy the more exotic the product of the collision.
