Not an easy question to answer because it depends upon a lot of factors such as the design of the car, the size of the car, the type of collision (frontal impact, side impact or a combination) and luck. I have seen cars completely mangled after a high speed impact where the occupants have come off with little more than a few scratches.

For example, Formula One cars are designed so that the driver is protected in crashes at speeds in excess of 100mph, but I wouldn’t recommend driving a normal family car into a wall at that speed. By improving the design of cars (including the type of steels used) we try to reduce the chances that you will be seriously injured in an accident, but there are no guarantees.
