Me and my work
I use femtosecond laser pulses to investigate the kinetics of protein structure changes
My Typical Day
I turn on the lasers, make sure they point in the right place and fire them at things!
What I'd do with the money
Apparently the prize is for communicating science more? I guess I would run a day for the local school….
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Who is your favourite singer or band?
Exodus (Thrash Metal) maybe? Though you can see what I’ve done [here] (http://www.last.fm/user/supercharv)
What's your favourite food?
What is the most fun thing you've done?
Teach in India? Not sure, pretty broad question – once kayaked off of a really higher waterfall, that was fun?
What did you want to be after you left school?
Had no idea
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Yeah – got thrown out
What was your favourite subject at school?
What's the best thing you've done as a scientist?
The last thing I’ve achieved is the bestest. Latest was observing some sub-picosecond changes in a protein chromophore for the first time.
What or who inspired you to become a scientist?
Nothing really – just a general enjoyment and curiosity
If you weren't a scientist, what would you be?
A teacher maybe
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
I would be rich enough to fund my own research, better at basic skills (Maths + language) and would have a much better attention span!
